Two Goats Resting

Two Goats Resting

Zinn Farm’s free range goat herd is a cross breed herd.  The goats are a Boer / Nubian cross.

The Boer breed was developed in the early 1900s in South Africa.  This is a great breed for meat production.  Our goats are crossed with the Anglo-Nubian, a classic milk goat.  By cross breeding our goats, we ensure a superior quality meat without sacrificing the animals ability to care for its young.

The goat kids are at eight months of age at slaughter to guarantee a tender and flavourful meat.  The market kids are finished with supplementary oats that creates a beautifully marbled and tender meat.  We only breed our does once a year, rather than every 8 months on other farms.  This longer rest period reduces stress on the does and improves their health.  Raising goats in a low stress environment is key to creating the best Chevon available.
